Last week many people across the country were horrified by the animal abuse that took place at Fair Oaks Farms. Since an undercover video has been released displaying the beating of young calves at the farm, animal rights activists have been outraged, and three Fair Oaks Farms employees have been arrested. Former MYD Vice President, Henri Metivier, has since created a petition to ask milk distributor Fairlife to stop buying from Fair Oaks Farms.

The Humane Society called Trump a “threat to animals everywhere.” At the same time, the Trump Administration has greatly paired back FDA inspections. That should concern everyone who is eating America’s increasingly unregulated food.

Thankfully, New York has twice rejected “Ag-Gag” and “Veggie Libel Laws” in 2011 and again in 2012. Standing up for animal rights nationally is important; not all food New Yorkers consume is local, and Fairlife distributes milk nationally.
